How do car designers build clay models of cars with tolerances so precise?
A craftsman can be formed to judge the accuracy and symmetry to the naked eye, but even the human eye and the most skilled hands of man would have the Impossibe closely for tollerences micron clay modles full screen How to ensure reaching the left side and right side of the models are accurate and curves and lines designed for all the wings are the same left and right?
In ancient times, it was a painstaking and methodically using measuring equipment – even a tape measure and micrometer heads and steel today – the models are assessed using laser technology and precision by meticulous craftsmen to shave – just the right amount at the right place. Most craftesmen also as you so rightly say, have an eye for symmetry and can spot a flaw than a mile away …. just a few years of practice – and a little mess ups …. One of the guys I used to work with can – just in the eye, spread Coachlines on paint planes – and they would less than 2 mm wide along the entire length of the aircraft. And it is with paint – not stick on Coachlines – by hand!
